Windsurfing
Mallorca is one of the biggest wind capitals in Europe. For over 30 years windsurfing experts have come to the island because of its perfect conditions for their sailboards. This is so much so the case that several windsurfing international competitions have been held here.
A good example of that is Mallorca Surf Action, which takes place in August in Platja de Palma. This event has an explosive activity and international competition programme with close to 40.000 people and more than 200 world champions. Moreover, Mallorca Surf Action offers the latest in high tech installations. All these characteristics are just some of the details associated with this multidisciplinary event, where the best windsurfing, kitesurfing, wakeboarding, skimboarding, skating, BMX, inline skating, wakeskating, paddle boarding and snakeboarding professionals in the world come together.
Windsurfers rely on Mallorca, because it is the island with higher wind probability in all the Mediterranean. From April to November, the local thermal wind, known as the embat (sea-breeze), constitutes an extra advantage. It is a wind from the sea that develops over land near coasts and has a variable intensity of 15 knots, which is perfect for practicing windsurfing.
In Mallorca, the days without wind are pretty rare, since the embat or one of the two predominant winds (East and Southwest) usually blow and therefore, there are no bad surprises.
There are two sensational spots where you can practice windsurfing and kitesurfing: the Bay
of Pollença and the beach of Can Pastilla.
