Alaró

Alaró is a municipality located in Es Pla at the foot of Serra de Tramuntana. It belongs to the district of Raiguer and is bounded by Bunyola, Escorca, Lloseta, Mancor de la Vall, Binissalem, Consell and nta Maria del Camí. It is 26 km from Palma (via motorway and road).
Alaró has its origins in the Muslim hamlet of Oloron. However, the documented history begins in the 13th century after the conquest of Mallorca in the hands of James I. During the occupation of the Catalan Kingdom of Mallorca the locals established themselves in the Alaró Castle to fight against the enemies.
The Alaró Castle is a very popular destination for hiking lovers. You can get there from the foot of the mountain. On the summit, there are remains of the Christian fortress and remains of the Muslim underground reservoirs. Some other interesting trips include the excursions to Puig de S’Alcadena and Clot d’Almedrà.

- The main fincas in this municipality are: Sollerich, Son Fortesa, Son Curt, Es Verger, Banyols, Ses Artiques, Can Cladera, Son Bergues, Sa Teulera, Son Grau, Clot d’Almadrà, Can Xalet, Casa d’Amunt, Cas Senyors and Son Cocó.
- Alaró has interior and rural hotels, as well as hostels. The oldest one is Hostal de Can Tiu. The Son Penyaflor Rural Hotel opened at a later date.
- The Alaró Castle’s restaurant, apart from having excellent food and being cheap (their speciality is lamb, suckling pig and grilled kid), also offers accommodation.
