Montuiri
Montuïri is a municipality located in central Mallorca. It has an extension of 40.39 km² and a population of 2191 inhabitants. The village lies on a small hill (178 metres) and is located on one side of the Palma – Manacor motorway.
Its archaeological sites give evidence of agriculture and cattle farming in prehistoric times. In the Roman Age, as well as in the following periods, the main activity in this area revolved around cereal cultivation (oats, barley, wheat...), but also around fig trees and vineyards. However, it all started to disappear do to the mildew and the phylloxera.
These historical agricultural antecedents prove that the lands in this comarca were very fertile. This municipality is covered with small hills and valleys. Here, people still cultivate cereals, almond trees, fig trees, apricot trees and some other irrigated fruit trees.
In the middle of the 20th century, Montuïri was a village that mainly lived from agriculture. Most people worked in the primary sector. Afterwards, with the boom of the tourist industry and the service sector, people have started to abandon their lands and have started to work in the service sector. Today, in this municipality there are two country hotels and one agritourism establishment.
