Puigpunyent
Puigpunyent is a municipality with an extension of 42.3 km2 located 12 km from Palma. It borders the municipalities of Calvià, Palma, Esporles, Banyalbufar and Estellencs.
This municipality has housed since prehistoric times all the different cultures that settled in Mallorca as a result of several military, social and economic dominations.
After the Reconquest and as established in the Distribution Book, Puigpunyent was left in the hands of the Bishopric of Barcelona.
Located on the eastern slope of Serra de Tramuntana, Puigpunyent offers a unique scenery. Its proximity to some of the main mountains turns this municipality into the perfect starting point for hiking trips of all levels.
The valley lies next to Puig de Galatzó, which is 1035 metres high.
The pine and Holm oak forests constitute the essence of this area. It is important to highlight the bank vegetation in Torrent de Sa Riera, a ravine that heads from Son Vic de Superna and flows into the Bay of Palma after running through the city via a channel.
The Puig de Galatzó Reserve, accessible through the Puigpunyent road, is a natural park unique in Mallorca. It has more than 2.5 millions of m² of lush vegetation and a great variety of beautiful animals.
This park is the perfect place to go hiking. Its 3.5 km hike along its comfortable paths offers you the opportunity to discover 30 waterfalls before reaching the leisure area, where you can enjoy the bar and BBQ services, as well as the swings and the “Refreshing Mountain” swimming pool facilities.
Galilea is a small village in the Puigpunyent municipality situated at 500 metres of altitude, on the south slope of Puig de Galatzó. It has a population of 200 people and its houses are located around the church of Inmaculada Concepció, built in 1810. Galilea is a must-see due to the beauty that surrounds the access road, its unique and spectacular landscape, as well as the bohemian and privileged nature of this village, a place that many artists have made their home.
