This village was originally a small hamlet that belonged to Manacor. It turned into a municipality when it became independent of Manacor at the end of the 20th century, when it received the name “San Lorenzo de Descardazar”, a name that kept until the 50s.
In the past, this village’s economy was based on agriculture and cattle farming.
As a tourist destination, Sant Llorenç is one of the most important areas in Mallorca. It is also one of the most famous spots in the Mediterranean thanks to the coastal area of Cala Millor.
The beach of Cala Millor, which is 1750 metres long and 35 metres wide, is one of the most popular beaches in summertime. Its waters are transparent and clean. It is a big tourist resort, with over 25000 beds in hotels and apartments.
The beach of Sa Coma is 900 metres long and 60 metres wide. It has fine white sand. Its promenade seafront stretches along the beach under the shade of pine trees and palm trees.
La Punta de n´Amer is a protected natural area. It has an extension of 200 ha and forms a peninsula that separates Sa Coma from Cala Millor. In this area there are pine trees, tamarinds and remains of a dune landscape that used to exist on the beach of Cala Millor. On one end of this peninsula there is a square-shaped watchtower surrounded by a moat which was built in the 17th century in order to prevent attacks from the pirates coming from North Africa. Both in Sa Coma and in Cala Millor you can hire a horse and ride along the paths that this area has to offer.
